He returns to
his mother's place, in Istria. He is lonely, and mother advises him to get
merried. She gives him his father's military uniform (former navy officer in
Austro-Hungarian army). Giuseppe is on the road, searching for a wife in the
"East in transition", hoping that as an Italian, he will be given warm
welcome. In Budapest, he finds accommodation in a private guest-house, where landlady immediately sees him as a "marriage opportunity". Others around are also interested in him - Atilla, chief of a con agency who promises jobs and work permits in the Western countries to numerous immigrants from the East. They also have many business proposals for Giuseppe.

One ''businessman'' takes Giuseppe to Montenegro, to start a travel agency
there. Giuseppe is willing to go, being interested in seeing the court of
King Nikola (who reined from 1865 until 1915), whose daughter Elena was
Italian princess, married to Vitorio Emanuello III. On the spot, Giuseppe
falls in love with a lady who works as a museum guide. However, that love
doesn't end well: she is very disappointed when she finds out that he was a
soldier in Mussolini's army, during II World War.

Back to Hungary. He restores former relationships. Gets into trouble with
Atilla, leaves across the border, for Vojvodina - Subotica and Novi Sad,
together with his new friend Djordje (one of the agency's victims). Falls in
love again, with Djordje's ex-wife. The odd 'threesome' leave for Istria /
Djordje will be given Giuseppe's vineyard, in exchange for the wife...
However, the plan is not so smooth...
