Vera and Erzika, workers in the thread mill "Trudbenik" from
Pancevo, started working at thirteen. In the meantime, the law changed,
so that two working years cannot be added to the total sum of their years
of employment. Now when they should retire, they meet with many problems
and misunderstandings.
Taking this problem as the source of dramatic conflict, the director presents
the emotional disposition of the two protagonists, their families, their relationships
with colleagues at work, the whole span of moods and preoccupations of people
who have reached the end of their working age.
The constant contrasting of recorded statements, reconstructed situations and
improvised dialogues creates a specific atmosphere of a discernible "slice
of life" which has beem rarely dealt with .
