Yugoslavia, 1979, 30 min, 16 mm, color written and directed by: Zelimir Zilnik camera: Ljubomir Becejski edited by: Katarina Kislovska
production: TV Novi Sad
In remote Vojvodinian villages Zilnik finds dozens of old men who are more then willing to tell stories about their adventures from the times of the First World War: marching thousands of kilometres from Siberia to Vojvodina, fighting with the Allies on the Salonika front - to free Serbia and create Yugoslavia. As a reward, the King gave them land and houses in Vojvodina, to settle. Later, in Tito’s Yugoslavia they were denied their rights, kept on social margins, as royalists. This documentary was one of the first opportunities for them to speak publicly about their life experience and troubles.
